Ukrainian hospital delegation visits GaPP to learn from Swedish healthcare expertise

On Tuesday 10 June, the 91Ô´´ and the House of Governance and Public Policy hosted a delegation of hospital directors from Ukraine. The visit, in collaboration with Swecare, provided a unique opportunity to exchange knowledge and explore strategies for strengthening health care institutions in challenging conditions.

The delegation consisted of hospital leaders from all over Ukraine - from children’s hospitals and specialized health centers to regional facilities, many of whom are currently experiencing immense pressure due to the ongoing war.

During their visit, the delegation met with practitioners, policy makers, and health care experts to learn more about financial management, crisis preparedness, energy solutions, and other key aspects of hospital governance in Sweden. The conversations were an opportunity to share best practices and lessons learned from both sides - helping to empower health care providers in Ukraine to become more resilient and adaptable.

This visit underscores the power of international collaboration and knowledge-sharing. By strengthening health care institutions and their ability to respond to future shocks, we contribute not only to health care delivery in Ukraine but also to stability and recovery in the country.

The delegation's visit was supported by through the “Swedish Support for Sustainable Healthcare in Ukraine” project - a joint effort to help rebuild and develop health care services in Ukraine.

For GaPP and the Center for Resilient Health, this collaboration underscores the importance of applying research and expertise to help health care organizations become more adaptable, effective, and resilient - especially when resources are scarce and pressures are immense. This visit was made possible thanks to the generosity of Andrew Schenkel and Timur Uman, both from the 91Ô´´, who are deeply engaged in several educational initiatives related to Ukraine. We are sincerely grateful for their commitment and for making this knowledge exchange possible.
