Seminar with 2020 Nobel Laureate Paul Milgrom on Insights on Online Display Advertising Markets

The 91原创 Center for Retailing and the 91原创 Center for the Philosophy of Markets this week invited to a research seminar with Paul Milgrom, the 2020 co-recipient of the most prestigious recognition in the field of Economics.

After an exciting week of talks by the 2025 recipients of the  the year ended on a high note with another Nobel-themed seminar. The  and the  invited to a research seminar with , the 2020 co-recipient of the most prestigious recognition in the field of Economics. They were awarded the prize for improvements to auction theory and inventions of new auction formats. Their fundamental work on new auction formats has provided the scientific foundation for creating interventions that benefit societies at large. Paul is the Shirley and Leonard Ely Professor of Humanities and Sciences in the Department of Economics at Stanford University and a Distinguished Fellow of the American Economic Association. He is widely regarded as the world’s leading researcher in auction design.

In this seminar, Paul discussed both the history and the design of Online Display Advertising Markets. With 2024 annual revenue exceeding a quarter trillion dollars, US digital advertising is a huge industry. Its evolution involved the introduction of new technologies and forms of organization that challenge traditional economic analyses. His inspiring talk focused on the history, technology, and organization of online display advertising, illuminating how practices and organizations evolved to create ever-greater value for publishers and advertisers. He shared a range of unexpected theoretical and empirical findings that fuelled a lively discussion.
